Birdwatching Cendrawasih (Birds of Paradise)

If you visit the Raja Ampat, don't forget to see the beauty of birds of paradise in the Sawinggrai village, Papua. The village is located in the Meos Mansar district, Raja Ampat, West Papua. Sawinggrai village is a place where you can see birds of paradise live in the wild.

There are four types of birds of paradise that you can see in this village, a red paradise (Paradisaea rubra), a belah rotan paradise (Cicinnurus magfinicus), a small paradise (Paradisaea minor), and a large paradise (Paradisaea apoda). Of these four Sawinggrai village mascot is a red bird of paradise.

Bird of Paradise is a family Paradisaeidae and only found in eastern Indonesia, the islands of the Torres Strait, Papua New Guinea, and eastern Australia. The attraction of a bird of paradise are very beautiful colors feathers, beautiful colors of the feathers used by males to attract females. In addition, to attract females during the mating season they also perform movements such as dance.

To see birds of paradise in the Sawinggrai village, first go to the Sorong, then proceed with using sea transportation to Waisai, capital of Raja Ampat. From Waisai then proceed to the Sawinggrai village.

The journey has not been completed, to see the birds of paradise. You have to climb the Manjai hill which will take approximately 30 minutes. After arriving you will be presented with the beauty of paradise dancing in the trees, an attraction that made paradise for males attract females.

You can see dancing bird of paradise in the morning and evening. If you want to see the attraction of birds of paradise dancing, come during the breeding season. If you arrive on the spawning season, then you can not watch the attraction.
